I’m not making any click bait title, I mean it a lot, lol. There is a friendly budget backpacker hostel Jakarta under 200K; if I convert to USD, it is about 7.8 USD a day. For me who need only a place for sleep near Gatot Subroto and Golden Triangle, staying at Nomad Hostel Kemang is the best option I’ve ever had.
Backpacker Hostel Jakarta, Nomad Hostel Kemang
Welcome to Kemang, good people! The reason I prefer hostel over hotel is, I’m under budget. I don’t have any friend to share room with, also my old fellows went out Jakarta for a while -__-, so I need a wallet friendly bed and breakfast to stay. The distance between Nomad Hostel Kemang to the office ranges 15 minutes by using Gojek, so it was the right place for me.
Kemang itself is an expatriate area. So it tends to be rather difficult to find food that is budget friendly :’), although if you want to walk a bit far, beverages under 50K is still found. In the vicinity of the hostel, you can easily find cafes, bars, restaurants, supermarkets, as well as Periplus bookstore that is less than a kilometer away.
Opened in June 2018, Nomad Hostel Kemang is fairly new. Even so, this place was already a bit crowded because in the room that I live, there were about 8 people staying. The concept of hostel is similar to capsule hotel in Japan, so one room can be filled up to 20 people. I was given a locker to store things, but if you want to be more secure, then you have to buy the lock itself. The price is quite affordable, ie 35K. The good news is that the women’s and men’s rooms are separated, so it’s quite comfortable to live in.
Because the concept is backpacker hostel, then everything is shared. Starting from the bathroom, dining room, billiard play area, TV room, also laundry. But unfortunately this hostel adheres to the concept of tof origin, so you will not be able to find a mosque or prayer room. Good news is, there are two mosques that are quite close together. Usually at dawn, I pray alone in a dark room: ‘), most of whom live are not Muslims.
This hostel consists of 3 floors; 1st and 3rd floor are male’s, while the 2nd floor is female’s. If you have heavy luggage, there’s an elevator!
And no need to worry about its safety too, because every room is given a password. The direction to unlock is easy; you just stick your palm, then fill in the appropriate password given at the receptionist. Then the room will open and locked again automatically. If anything happens, the alarm will automatically turn on, so it’s really modern hostel.
Well, because it is not a hotel, then you should have prepared all the personal needs in a separate bag. There is a towel rental for 10K, but because I’ve brought from home, I do not rent. I also brought my own toiletries. But if you do not have anything with you, you can walk to Hero Kemang which is less than 15 minutes from the hostel.
The bathroom is really clean! Here they provide 3-in-1 soap, shampoo, and conditioner as well. There are hair dryers are also for those who want to dry the hair in quick time. For the toilet is a toilet seat. Although it looks simple, there is hot water too. So you can take a bath using warm water.
Poorly, they still use toren to fill the water. There was an incident when the water died completely, so it needs to be filled in first. I waited long enough to wash and wash my clothes.
The dining room consists of two areas, smoking and nonsmoking. In the smoking area or outside there is a small swimming pool of rubber that can be enjoyed while relaxing. I have not tried because I’m lazy, haha.
Sadly I can not order breakfast. However, at the hostel provided fast food that live heated by using a microwave. The menu varies, there is a breakfast menu like sandwiches, and pasta, then dessert like cake. Well, they also provide cold brew coffee self-concoction. The price is quite affordable, but still added 10% VAT.
I’ve tried one menu, a pasta. Ignore the title, it’s not a salad, haha. It’s a bit sour, I do not know any seasoning, which is definitely a pasta with cream, bacon, and raw onions. It seems I have to buy sambal ABC next time 🙁
There is also a shared TV room. They’re already using cable TV, but not all the exciting channels are on, wkwk. Most of them news channels. Softly padded, make to sit all day. I love sitting here while watching NHK or reading a book while hearing dangdut koplo from TV broadcast, hahaha.
Oya,you don’t have to worry about Wi-Fi! In each area there is an access point. The speed is fast enough, I’ve tried watching streaming and almost no buffering.
One of the most interesting thing is the laundry room. Here, you can buy two special coins for 35K complete with detergent. Time to wash and dry clothes is 1.5 hours, but I’m very satisfied! I do not even need to iron anymore. So happy: ‘)
With facilities like this, I can get many new conveniences and experience. The price is cheap but the quality is wow!
Total of my spending: IDR 641,417
Room for 5 nights: IDR 543,917
Laundry: IDR 35,000
Lock: IDR 35,000
Beverage: IDR 27,500
